Love your curls between chapters

Your salon visit is one part of the story. A routine that suits your scalp, curl pattern and hair condition helps keep your curls feeling their best at home.

Clean curls start here

Regular shampooing removes scalp oil and styling residue. Heavy build up can leave curls feeling coated and weighed down. Wash as often as your scalp and routine need, rinse thoroughly and ask us when a clarifying wash would help.

Moisture and protein

Conditioning helps curls feel softer and easier to detangle. Protein treatments can temporarily support damaged areas of the hair fibre and reduce breakage, especially after colouring or heat damage.

More is not always better. Protein needs vary, and too many rich or strengthening products can leave hair coated or stiff. We can help you balance your routine around your hair’s condition.

A gentler approach to frizz

A little frizz is normal. Detangle damp, conditioned hair gently in sections. Avoid brushing dry curls if you want to preserve definition, and squeeze out water gently instead of rubbing with a towel.

Style with care

Use an amount of styling product that suits your hair. A suitable leave in conditioner can help with manageability and flyaways. Keep heat gentle and use a heat protector before diffusing or other heat styling, following its instructions.

Protect your curls overnight

A comfortable silk or satin bonnet can help reduce rubbing against your pillow. A loose pineapple or braid may also help, depending on your length and curl pattern. Avoid tight styles that pull at your roots.

Let your routine evolve

Adjust products as your hair changes. If curls feel heavy, review build up before adding more cream or oil. Bring your products and questions to your next appointment so we can help you refine your wash day routine.

Your curl questions

What is a curl by curl cut?

We cut your curls dry as they naturally sit, shaping your hair around its curl pattern. This helps us see how your curls fall and create a shape that works with them.

Which first appointment should I book?

New adult curly cut clients must book The First Chapter. It includes a full consultation, scalp examination, dry curl cut, scalp detox, wash and condition, personalised styling and diffusing, plus advice for your routine at home.

How should I prepare?

Please arrive with curls washed within the previous 48 hours, worn loose without clips or bands, and styled with your usual products. We need to see your natural curl pattern. If these preparation steps are not followed, we cannot carry out your appointment and the full appointment charge still applies. If you are unsure, call 01425 638218 before your visit.

The Next Chapter or The Edit?

The Next Chapter is your returning full curl experience, with a shorter consultation. The Edit is an express dry curl cut for established clients within four months of their full curl cut. It refreshes your shape and does not include a wash or styling.

Can I book a wash and diffuse?

Yes. The Glossary includes a cleansing wash, condition and personalised styling, finished with a diffuse dry.

Do you cut children’s curls?

Yes. The Little Introduction is a gentle dry curl cut for ages 8 and under. The Little First Chapter is a full first curl experience for children up to age 12. The Little Edit is a returning dry curl cut for children up to age 12. See the children’s chapters above for details and prices.

Will I get advice for home?

The First Chapter and The Next Chapter include personalised styling and advice for your wash day routine. We can talk through how to use your products and style your curls at home.

How often should I book a cut?

Our recommended yearly routine is three The Edit express cuts and one The Next Chapter returning experience. We can help you plan the timing around your hair.

How often should I clarify my curls?

As a starting guide, clarify every 3 to 4 weeks for most curl types, every 1 to 2 weeks with heavy product use, or around once a month for fine or fragile hair. Choose a suitable clarifying shampoo and follow with conditioner. These timings are for an occasional deeper cleanse alongside your regular wash routine. We can tailor them to your scalp, hair condition and product use.
